Gabdulla Tuqay Night

To commemorate birth of famous Tatar poet, Gabdulla Tuqay, the Tatar community in Adelaide, South Australia held “Gabdulla Tuqay” poetry night on 27 April 2013 at the Marchant Community Hall, Athelstone. The evening was a hit with the audience.

Turn up was quite good. The themes and poetry recited prompted the audience to think about their society, choices and structures. As if to encourage these community members nice selection of beautiful poems from Gabdulla Tuqay were read one after next. Students of Tatar-Bashkurt Ethnic School performed Tatar folk dances to delight the attendees. Students also recited poems of Gabdulla Tuqay and Mrs. Aysha Maski.

Musharraf Valiyff, Ravel Sadri, Aysylou Sadri and Ziya Maski took part in a stage play written by Aysha Maski called “No one is able to escape- Kemde kachep kurtulmas”. Play was liked and appreciated by everyone. There was laughter and applause. Members of Uighur community also took part in proceedings and recited a poem in Uighur.

Tatar ladies singing group sang nice selection of Tatar songs to excite the people. Mr. Rashed Chanisheff played his accordion and no doubt the tunes he played stirred up many old memories and emotions in the people.Everyone had a wonderful time and enjoyed the evening of poetry.
